FST 495 Update 2

This week I spent a lot of time working with backgrounds and figuring out the concepts for a lot of them. I took initiate and began a rough creation of the control room background, since it is one of our primary backgrounds for the film. I also updated our calendar with my class schedule and such so that we can get the ball moving with production as according to our schedule. My main focus has been sketching out the backgrounds though. Our group did not meet this week, but soon we will have a set meeting time so that we can get stuff done. I also brainstormed a lot of how Niko will interact with these environments. For the control room, I made it all in illustrator and then imported it all into after effects for the final test render. I am so excited to build the more elaborate and fun environments as I move forward! The link for the test render is below!

FST 495 Update 1

Everything has gone very well, each week I am going to work to create a vlog to give updates after my group meets each week and as we start our workflow. We have fully locked down our story and are developing the details as we move forward this week. Below is our treatment and character bio!

TREATMENT

Working Title: Space Inc.
Student Names: Kenneth Freyer, Parker Littleton, Daniel Mcwhorter

Story Summary: In the depth of the universe, there lies a black hole and cephalopod named Niko. We see the black hole is motionless until it begins to rev up, stalling out each time. The scene changes to show Niko inside of a bright white room, covered in wires. After countless attempts to fix the black hole, Niko decides to call customer service. They begin to help but Niko moves the wrong wire and panic lights begin to flash. Niko begins yelling at the phone and we cut to see the black hole suck into itself and disappear. The story reveals that Niko is being taken through space in a black pod, shooting through different black holes. The next scene opens to his pod crash landing in a desert area.
Niko angrily kicks open the door to the pod and looks around. Seeing his environment, he has a bewildered look on his face and continues to frantically yell at the phone only to find that no one is on the line anymore. He throws the phone and starts to evaluate his situation. He goes back into the pod and stares longingly at the wires. He takes initiative and moves around some plugs and we hear a whirring sound. We see the pod vibrating in the middle of the desert environment and then it disappears into a new black hole. We follow him as he is sucked to many different environments, including dangerous environments such as steep mountain regions, thin ice lakes, and lava filled caves. He must fight through the different obstacles he faces in these environments until he ends up in a war zone.
Looking out he hears gunshots and cannon fire, and as he closes the door to safety, a grenade follows him inside. Frantically moving around the wires, he notices the grenade at the last second, as his pod warps to the final environment. Not caring about where he is, he jumps out to avoid the grenade and starts free falling in midair as his pod explodes behind him. He lands in an ocean which is live action and not animated, and the camera focuses on him looking around. We then zoom out to show prehistoric earth and eventually the whole universe.

CHARACTER BIO
Niko :
He’s an alien cephalopod in space that repairs black holes much like a mechanic or a plummer. As a space creature, he floats around and wears a mechanics uniform complete with hat and tool belt. Unfortunately, our friend Niko is likeable klutz and not particularly good at his job. (read. squidward) Coming from an advanced race of aliens, their emphasis on the collective has ostracized Niko to the fringes of his society due to his ineptitude. This leaves him rather lonely and unfulfilled as space cephalopods go.
